If you follow a set of clear instructions, the process of setting up WIFI will be far easier than you think. WIFI can be used for purposes such as sharing files, streaming videos, playing online games, chatting online, and conducting research. WIFI networks allow one to relish in the convenience of portable internet services within the range of the home based internet network. You can enjoy your computer in your backyard, or in the comfort of your own bed.
But in order to set up your WIFI connection, there are a few requirements you must first fulfill. You must first verify that your operating system can support the network requirements of WIFI internet. For best results, you should aim to have a Windows 7 operating system. However, Windows Vista and Windows XP can offer full functionality for WIFI service.
A high speed or broadband internet connection of some sort is required for something such as WIFI. With no connection, WIFI is obsolete. Broadband services can be obtained through DSL and other providers. You also need a way to establish connectivity, whether this is achieved through a wireless router, DSL modem, or cable modem. A modem comes with wireless capabilities, where as a router converts incoming signals into a wireless broadcast.
If you would like to set up a wireless router with your laptop, refer to the following steps. The first step is to connect the router to the computer wielding the broadband modem. Then, remove the power from your broadband modem. You can either unplug it, or simply turn it off. Then, insert the power adapter into the back portion of the wireless router. Proceed to plug the AC adapter into an AC outlet. Ensure that the power signal illuminates to indicate that it is plugged in. Next, simply plug the Ethernet cord into the modem. After you have completed these steps, you may turn on the modem once again. The other end of the Ethernet cord should be inserted into the WAN port. If you are unsure about the location of this port, simply peer at the router’s back panel.
The next step is to connect another Ethernet cable to the NIC of the laptop and the LAN Port 1. You must then proceed to turn off your laptop so that the necessary changes can take effect. When you have restored power to your computer, open the internet browser.
The final step may prove to be somewhat tricky, but you can master it by closely following directions. The built in setup up display should have a specific URL. Type this in the address bar once the browser is opened. Then, simply click enter.
Once your wireless network is setup, you will have the freedom to use the web anywhere on your property.
