Alcatel-Lucent and Telefonica Will Boost Mobile Broadband Coverage in Germany

Alcatel-Lucent and Telefonica in Germany have announced the deployment of femtocell technology to increase access to 3G mobile broadband and quality of service for customers of Telefonica in Germany.

Alcatel-Lucent ‘plug-and-play’ femtocell solution for Telefonica in Germany includes femtocell modems and gateways that can be installed in business and general outdoor locations in high-density areas.

In particular, with the increasing use of mobile phones by office workers instead of traditional phones connected to a desktop, the introduction of femtocell in the workplace will help Telefonica to maintain quality of service and connectivity of workers in offices and other indoor areas.

Telefonica is marketing the modems Signal Box by O2, which will help Telefonica to expand its network coverage in areas where the walls of the buildings can degrade the signal quality of mobile, or in areas too remote from the traditional macro cells communications tower.

Femtocell can improve the quality of mobile coverage of the 3G business customers to access voice and high speed data, to utilize more effectively the available wireless spectrum.
