According to ABI’s recent research, the number of people using fiber-optic broadband will have stronger growth by 2018. The broadband global has generated the revenue of 188 million dollars in 2012 and the growth is increased by 7%, when comparing to 2011’s revenue. This revenue rate will continue to grow and reach 251 billion dollars by the year 2018. Last year 2012 was highly rewarding for the fiber broadband sector and the service revenue of fiber broadband is up by 24%, but the cable and DSL broadband revenues rose only to few percent.
Experts believe that the fiber broadband will reach its target before its forecast period. By 2018, 81.6 billion dollars will be the revenue of FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) and this revenue represents that the fiber broadband will cover one third of the global broadband revenue. However, the average revenue continues to decline over all the broadband platforms in the recent years. This market trend will endure with the increase in competition and many broadband operators are trying to stay at the top by offering various services at low price. The increase in LTE services influences the fixed broadband operators to reduce the charges to great extend in countries like South Korea and Japan. In US, fixed broadband revenue grew from $41 billion to $43 billion. When comparing to the fiber broadband, it just makes only 7% on the total revenue. Though, US shares only small part of revenue in FTTP at present and it will enhance with the increase in demand of super-fast broadband services.
