Addis Ababa Is Now Covered By 4G LTE

Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, is now covered by 4G LTE. The second phase of the program to improve the quality of service and expansion of mobile services was buckled in the country, allowing the city to get a call success rate of 98%.

In this enhancement project, Chinese telecom manufacturers ZTE and Huawei has been given to improve the quality of service in 2013 for a total of $ 1.6 billion, with Ethio Telecom, the only telecom operator in the country belonging to the state, successfully completed network improvements in 239 localities.

The first phase of the project was focused on 75 locations. The third phase of the project has already started expected to be completed in June 2014 which will see the construction of new network facilities in 411 communities and will expand the service coverage to 100% of Addis Ababa.

Once the third phase of the enhancement project has been completed, the quality of telecom services in the country will be fastened, the number of mobile subscribers will benefit from 4G Addis Ababa is expected to rise to 6.5 million. Currently, it is already 3.4 million consumers who benefit from this improved network.
