China Mobile Targeting to Launch China’s First 4G Network in August 2013

A Chinese news site CWW.net.cn reported that the approval of the LTE network of China Mobile could be issued next month. The site reports that China Mobile, the first operator of China – and the world’s largest operator by number of subscribers – waiting and hoping for a validation of its TD-LTE network on May 17. Citing a source, some believes that the actual launch of 4G network could take place as early as next August.

Moreover, according to The Next Web, China Mobile is ready to launch its network: which has already deployed 200,000 4G broadcast stations in 150 locations across the country, and would be ready to launch compatible devices next month. The operator has previously promised 4G compliant devices in the third quarter of 2013, so it is a bit early.

4G effect on subscriptions?

China Mobile has not benefited from the growth of the iPhone in the country – because of Apple’s network incompatibility with the device – which left the field open to its competitors China Unicom and China Telecom. They have much more advantage of the 3G effect to increase their customer base, while China Mobile remains largely dominant.

The plans of the three mobile operators in China, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom for a combined spend this year of 345,000 yuan (42.934 million euros) in network upgrades. That includes investment in 4G, which multiplies up to five times the speed of mobile broadband for Apple iPhone users (NasdaqGS: AAPL – news) or Galaxy phones (BSE: GALAGEX.BO – News), Samsung Electronics.

China Mobile opens the competition with a massive contract. It plans to generate a profit this year of 41.700 billion yuan ($ 6.75 billion) in 200,000 4G base stations in order to provide services to its 710 million customers, more than double the U.S. population

The operator now hopes to regain market share and thanks to 4G because it dominates the overall Chinese market. At the end of the year, it will begin to sell licenses on its network, but by then it is the only operator to benefit from this technology.

The industry generally believe that the 4G commercial will promote the flow of the mobile operating.
