Telekom Malaysia Will Focus On Internet And Data Segments

Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has reported that it will focus on the Internet and data segments to grow its topline in FY14, after exceeding the RM10bil mark in revenue at RM10.63bil and achieving RM1.36bil in normalised net profit for the financial year ended Dec, 31 2013 (FY13).

“We will continue to strengthen our position as market leader in the broadband segment and would continue to expand in underserved areas. High-speed broadband customers make up 41% of our total broadband customers, which bodes well for our new HyppTV packages,” TM group chief executive officer, Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Isa, told reporters at its results briefing.

The revenue market share for broadband was about 45%, while the customer base grew 7.2% to 2.2 million users with continued growth seen in UniFi and Streamyx. Moreover, the revenue contribution from Internet and data collectively stood at 49% compared with 46% in the preceding year.

Meanwhile, the fixed voice services which totalled 4.373 million, roughly unchanged from the 4.359 million reported for end-2012, with an increase in customers taking such services over the fibre network helping to offset declines in traditional copper-based voice telephony.
