China Unicom Mobile Broadband Subscribers Increased

China Unicom reported a 74 percent rise in first quarter net profits, beating estimates, as an increase in data usage offset a slowdown in subscriber growth. The Chinese second biggest mobile carrier revealed that its net profit for the January-March quarter was 3.3 billion yuan ($530.4 million).

Meanwhile the company total revenues reached 76.47 billion yuan which the growth was led by the mobile business, where service revenues rose 15.4 percent to 40.68 billion yuan. The company added a net 8.710 million new customers in the quarter, for a total 289.693 million at the end of March, and mobile broadband customers rose by 9.700 million to 132.300 million.

Fixed-line business maintained steady growth. A quarter of fixed-line service revenue was 22.92 billion yuan, an increase of 5.8%. The fixed-line broadband business serving revenue grew 11%, the cumulative net increase of 1,794,000 users reached 66.441 million and ARPU was 63.3 yuan.
