Telstra Releases The Worlds First LTE Category 6 Mobile Broadband Device

This week, Telstra has announced the release of its Wi-Fi 4G Advanced Pro X with the capability of pulling 300Mbps; but only in theory, according to the Australian telco. The new mobile broadband device is certified up to Category 6 LTE, which means it’s capable of pulling down 300Mbps thanks to a dual-band antenna which pulls down data from two networks simultaneously.

According to Telstra, the battery-powered mobile hotspot device which really suitable for people on the move, uses a technique called carrier aggregation, which allows the device to utilise both the 4G 700MHz and 4G 1800MHz spectrum, theoretically giving it the technical potential to reach speeds of up to 300 Mbps.

Meanwhile, with the ability to link to Telstra’s billing systems, The Advanced Pro X enables customers to track their data usage against their monthly allowance. The screen also displays information on Wi-Fi name, signal strength, number of devices connected battery levels and SMS notifications at a glance.

The 700MHz network option won’t be available until 2015, however, the device will be on sale from this week and will still use the existing 4G 1800MHz spectrum.
