4G Promise As Council Reveals More Details Of Broadband Roll-Out In Bath Area

Council chiefs have revealed more details of their plans to spark a broadband revolution across the Bath area.

Bath and North East Somerset Council is looking at using lampposts and local authority buildings to house 3G, 4G and wi-fi infrastructure, and wants nine out of ten homes and workplaces to have access to high-speed broadband by the end of 2016.

But opposition Tories say the council needs to say more about which communities will remain in the technological slow lane.

Lib Dem-run B&NES says the area is already “a hotbed of technological activity and innovation” but that improving broadband will help to increase the value of the local economy by £1 billion by 2029 and expand creative industry and ICT employment by 20 per cent.
