UPC Ireland has raised the bar for entry-level home broadband speeds with a new basic package and starting from today, UPC will offer 120Mb broadband as part of bundles with the Horizon set-top box and also packages for broadband and phone only. Existing customers can switch to these new packages on renewing their service.
“It’s quite a big strategic move for us,” said Mark Coan, vice-president of UPC Ireland. “But it’s based on a realistic assessment of ordinary people’s broadband needs. Overall, Irish internet traffic has grown 800pc in the past four years and that’s going to continue.”
The speed increase will be available to 700,000 households in the cities and major towns covered in UPC’s network.
UPC is supplying its 100Mbs fibre broadband to 13 schools in Cork and in total is supplying 70 schools across Ireland with fibre broadband as part of the nationwide Schools Broadband Scheme. “The provision of superfast broadband in schools is vital to ensure Irish children are equipped with the technological resources needed to flourish in today’s modern school system and digital economy,” said Magnus Ternsjö, CEO, UPC Ireland.
