Sky Ordered To Withdraw Misleading Catch Up TV Ad

A Sky ad for TV and broadband has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority after rival BT complained that it was misleading.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has ruled that Sky must withdraw a direct mail advertisement over concerns that consumers might be misled regarding the provider’s free broadband service.

It felt that by using the terms ‘Catch Up TV’, ‘On Demand’ and ‘free broadband’ in close proximity, Sky had suggested that viewers would have unlimited access to online content.

However, the provider’s free broadband service comes with a monthly usage cap of 2GB and the ad itself noted that “downloading a 30-minute show typically uses 0.5GB”.
