Broadband As The Greatest Engineering Innovation of Last Decade?

A survey by IET has rated broadband as the most important engineering development of the past ten years.

According to a poll conducted by Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), broadband romped to the number one spot with 53 per cent of the vote, with the two closest contenders; satellite navigation and smartphones which receiving just ten per cent each.

Meanwhile, Android mobile apps and on-demand TV were ranked bottom of the list, with each receiving a one per cent share.

“Not too long ago, superfast broadband was a future vision for a handful of engineers. Today it is available to almost three-quarters of UK homes, enriching our lives and broadening our horizons in ways that we could only dream of until recently,” said Professor Will Stewart, Chair of the IET’s Communications Policy Panel.
