The World is More Entangled With 4G LTE?

LTE and HSPA already represent 55% of mobile connections in the United States and Canada and 24% in Latin America.

4G Americas highlights that LTE connections in North America grew to 78.9 million subscriptions, representing 21 percent of the 378 million total mobile subscriptions in the region at the end of the third quarter of 2013, according to research by Informa Telecoms & Media.

The North American market continues to be in the leading position with respect to the LTE market share globally with 50 percent of 157.7 million LTE connections worldwide at the end of September 2013.

In the third quarter, LTE representing 2.4 percent of total mobile connections worldwide. LTE is expected to be the dominant technology in North America in 2014, as projected by Informa.

Mobile broadband LTE and HSPA continues to record phenomenal growth within the Americas. In Latin America, the market share of mobile broadband LTE and HSPA increased 24 percent to 168 million connections total of 700 million mobile connections, with 509 million GSM subscriptions begin to decline and move to technology mobile Broadband. Latin America added 59.1 million new connections HSPA and HSPA + over the previous year, totaling only 20.2 million in the third quarter.

“We continue to see impressive growth of LTE in Latin America and the Caribbean, with an increase of nearly half a million new LTE subscriptions in the third quarter,” said Bob Calaff, 4G Americas Director for Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Looking at the global picture, through September, North America still accounts for half of all LTE subscriptions in the world. However the dominance of LTE in North America is declining because LTE is also growing strongly in other regions, especially in Asia, where LTE subscriptions totaled 66 million at the end of the third quarter of 2013, compared with 79 million in North America North,” said Kristin Paulin, Senior Researcher at Informa Telecoms & Media.

LTE is expected to reach one billion connections at the beginning of 2018.
