Qatar’s leading telecom company, Ooredoo has reported that it has achieved the historic milestone of providing Broadband Fibre to more than 100,000 customers in Qatar, which makes the country on track in becoming one of the best countries in terms of communication in the world.
More than 80 percent of homes in the country have the fiber optic connectivity, and the service continues to extend this service to more new areas in Qatar every week. The global study based on reports issued by the FTTH Council showed that Qatar was recognised as the fastest nationwide rollout of fibre in the world in 2012, and the study is based to the percentage of homes that passed by fibre and the number of homes which connected to service during the year – with customers benefiting from this global achievement.
Home users and business customers can access the fastest Internet speeds (the 100Mbps plan) for just QR650 per month, with basic Fibre packages starting at QR233 for home broadband and voice services.
To enable more people to keep track of Qatar’s “Fibre revolution”, Ooredoo has launched a real-time online fibre availability map, enabling customers to track the rollout progress of the network.
The map, which is live on Ooredoo’s website, allows customers to find out whether they qualify to upgrade their service by checking if they are in a fibre-ready “Green” area and shows customers how to apply for a fibre upgrade.
Full details of all plans, pricing and offers are available on www.ooredoo.qa/en/fibre,along with the fibre availability map.
