Ericsson: Mobile Broadband Users Will Reach 8 Billion Globally in 2019

Ericsson recently released the “2014 ICT Industry Development Prospects” report, pointing out that the global ICT industry is facing an unprecedented development opportunities, a comprehensive Internet “network society” is being touched, the transformation of all aspects of social life, the data will also usher in greater “flood tide”.

According to the latest research conducted by Ericsson, the number of global mobile broadband user in 2019 is expected to reach 8 billion. Meanwhile the WCDMA/HSPA subscribers is expected to reach 4.8 billion which covering more than 90% of the population and the number of LTE subscribers will reach 2.6 billion, covering more than 65% of the population.

Intelligent Home and Car Will Be The First Industrialization of Networking

With global coverage of broadband everywhere networks, “network society” will triumph in many traditional areas, intelligent home and car will be the first industrial networking field.

Mobile Phones Will Become The Core of Personal Smart Life

Ericsson predicts that smartphone shipments in 2017 are expected to reach 1.7 billion and by 2019 global smart phone users will reach 5.6 billion. Over a long time, smart phones will be the largest global shipments of smart products. The sudden emergence of the tablet changed the pattern of the traditional PC industry, and further promote the Internet mobile. Eventually, mobile terminals, especially smart phones, will become the core of personal smart life.

Although in 2013, wearable devices become a hot industry, user still want to control other intelligent devices through the medium of smartphones window. So, smartphone platform is still the industry’s top priority.

Video Will Become The Focus of Industrial Competitiveness

“Mobile Intelligent Terminal + broadband + cloud” will build platform that will become the infrastructure of network society, with the other energy and utility as a platform to become the foundation on which the entire society and all sectors operated.

Meanwhile, with the rise of LTE, video content to the last mile of the mobile terminal is no longer a bottleneck, which means the video content will usher in further outbreaks, and promote the rapid growth of traffic. Currently, the video business contributed about 35% of mobile data traffic, and video traffic is expected to reach 50% of the proportion of total mobile data traffic in 2019.

Data Traffic Surge Challenges Business Operators and Operating Model

Ericsson predicts that by 2019, global mobile data traffic (does not include WiFi, M2M traffic) growth will be more than 10 times the monthly flow from 600MB in 2013 to 2.2GB in 2019. Data traffic surges have a profound impact on business operators and business model. The user’s information consumption patterns from the traditional voice and SMS as the core, and gradually shift to mobile data-centric of mobile Internet manner. Traffic growth through the introduction of virtual operators, allowing the network to have the pipeline greater value to reflect.”

5G Will Bring The Full Integration of The Network Society

Currently, 4G technology evolution is accelerating the pace of commercial, LTE-A will be rolled out on a global scale, and for 5G technology research, it is also being implemented soon. 5G will usher in a revolution in ICT field once connected, combined with constant innovation and terminal areas of development, will lead this revolution in human society into a more sophisticated network society.
